HD Radio

Radio is a medium which despite its long history is very much a modern one; look no further than HD Radio if you need any convincing. However, many still think of radio as the medium of a bygone age; of course, these same people will immediately realize their error once they think about just how much time they spend in their cars, working in the garage, cooking and a multitude of other activities with the radio as their companion. Radio is a medium which people find comforting and it is certainly an intimate one. As one long time radio host put it, “you’re talking directly into people’s heads”. Much like HDTV signals, HD radio is a purely digital signal. This provides the listener with a dramatically higher sound quality than that offered by conventional analog radio signals. AM broadcasts come in at FM quality; quite an improvement over the often static-ridden sound one can usually expect from AM. FM broadcasts are equally amazing, being heard in crystal clear CD quality digital sound! For those who listen to music on the radio (and really, that’s all of us), this is a godsend!
